Sounds like you're faced with the same situation as I Roger. I really
would like to be able to offer on-site prints when I shoot car club
events. I know my print sales would be *much* better were I to work it
that way.

By the way, did you know there is a $500.00 rebate currently on the
P-400 if you buy an E-10? Pretty attractive offer.

I'm partial to Epson for inkjet printing but the digital labs out there
such as ezprints, shutterfly, etc. all can do prints from digital files
that are at the same price point and they ship direct to clients. I only
use my Epson for proof prints, not for sales.

As I understand it, the P-400 does not require a computer. There is also
a new Epson I saw an ad for that doesn't require a computer. I gather
that the consumables for the Olympus printer are not cheap but if the
costs work out to around $2-3 per 8x10 print I could be happy with the
margins.

I was speaking with a friend who owns a studio who has used Kodak
dye-sub printers for several years now about this recently and he was
singing the praises of the P-400 and implied that the combo (E-10/P-400)
in the right hands could be a money maker for sure. Even with the rebate
it would be a sizeable investment though into a rapidly changing
technology.

A good way to look at the rapidly changing technology thing is this...if
you buy the tools for the job and they pay for themselves and start
making you money then it really doesn't much matter how quickly the
become obsolete. Clients won't care what the results come from as long
as they are satisifed with those results. If I could put together the
extra $3-4k it would take I would make the leap today (because it is not
just a simple matter of an E-10 and P-400...there are add-on lenses,
battery pack, memory storage, FL40 flash, etc. to take into
consideration as well).

Please let us know what you decide and if you make the leap what your
results are and how your clients accept them.
