My last input was indeed meant as a kind of joke. However, I had neither the 
time or the language skills to put it that way.

You might be right about Lowe cases being a good choice. The one I own is one 
of the smallest you can get (It's a Nova 1) and I like the possibility to 
attach it to the straps of my backback, allowing it to hang on my belly for 
easy access. But I was quite disappointed about the promised water proofness. 
In Greenland I hiked with the bag on my belly for a couple of hours while it 
was raining. The result was my cheapo Tamron telezoom soaking up water through 
the front end. No further damages, however. It just needed one day without 
rain. The air is so dry up there that everything dries fast.

Consider also these options:

For storage, also dehumidifying cabinets were proposed on this list. 

20 feet containers with the appropiate sealings might also do the job.
