Why not - the Pentax K1000 is now manufactured by the Pearl River Corp. of
China as a Millenium or no-name K1000 because of the demand and because
they had the tooling - they made them for Pentax for the last ten years of
the models 'genuine' life. Schools here still encourage student to buy the
old Pentax, maintaining a false high value for them (most I see on sale are
pretty clapped out and need a major overhaul). The Seagull is also a good
basic unit - Nikon or Minolta mount - I don't know if it's the same
factory. My son's girlfriend bought a 'Soligor' in Europe with MD mount
which is also Seagull and I saw a 'K' mount Vivitar today which I'll bet is
the same camera. None of these are $19 cameras - they go for around US$250
with a 50mm - but they seem more robust if less featured that an OM2000. No
reason why a Chinese OM1 should be beyond the realm of reality.
