The *= on either side is simply decoration. :-)
Actually, the EOS zoom can be focused fairly easily with a screw-in
shade in place (specially with a rubber band around it), but it's
going out soon to someone who wants to try to fix it. Hey, I
paid $2 for it at a g-sale.
