For those who can read Chinese/Kanji, here is what I got from
Jim Terazawa some time ago. I too had difficulty understanding
the translation of Zuiko until I see the Kanji writing of the
characters. I think "auspicious light" probably comes closest
to the Kanji meaning (if taken just by themselves without the
"abbreviation" aspects).
The "gem" part that Mr. Matsumoto was referring to is the part
with the three horizontal lines with a vertical line down the
middle in the left character. It actually means "jade" when
used as a component of another word.
