This is what bothered me greatly. Perhaps it is the academic training pounded into me during graduate study. Failure to give credit of authorship or creation for something used in any work was grounds for expulsion. It was considered plagiarism for which there was zero tolerance and only very slightly less heinous than cheating on an examination. Even if sources were cited, a failure to do so properly, and accurately, was enough to get hammered on a grade.
