Chris,

Welcome to the world of Zuikoholism. As a, cough, cough, frequent
purchaser, I'll weigh in with my thoughts on a couple things:

- The OM2000 is ok, not great. It really isn't a 'real' Olympus body, it is
made by Cosina. I think you'll find most people on this list, including me,
would steer you towards a used OM-1,2, etc first
- The 35-70/3.5-4.8 that comes with the OM-2000 is, well, junk, compared to
the real Olympus lenses. For example, the 35-70/3.5-4.5 (confusing, isn't
it), is light years better (for around $125). Of course, the 35-80/2.8 is
the ultimate, but at $1000+ it should be.
- Ebay. Personally, I've had excellent luck. I've made almost 200
transactions, buying and selling, almost all OM equipment (some big things,
some little things). I've only had one poor transaction, where the buyer
just didn't understand the KEH rating scale and left me negative feedback
before contacting me. I worked it out to his satisfaction, but he didn't
know he couldn't retract a negative, so I am stuck with it. So, once you're
comfortable with the market prices and exactly what you want, you shouldn't
rule it out.

So that leaves us with where to get your first body (I'd suggest an OM-1 or
OM-2 personally, but make sure you get the flash shoe). People on this
list, the most knowledgeable OM people around -- I learn every day here,
often sell and trade equipment. It's ok to post a polite 'want to buy'
request, if you make it clear in the subject line. Give it a shot, maybe
someone will solve your problem for you <g>.

Hope this helps.

Tom
