It should have been clear that I in fact bought a Nikon system for
reasons of performance, specifically for the autofocus, flash, and
zoom lens performance. Zoom lens designs have improved since the
Zuiko zooms were designed, largely due to advances in computer design
and perhaps also there are computer controlled grinding machines which
can produce aspheric shapes.

I don't think I'm alone in keeping and using an OM system in large
part due to the small size and robust nature of the bodies, especially
the OM-1. I've hiked have spent months hiking with an OM-1, something I
would not do with the N70 (an FM2 would however be ok, but heavier and
larger). Similarly for travel, especially go-light international
travel the OM is a superior option. The ability to conviniently palm
the camera for semi-concealment and fit it into small fanny-packs and
pack pockets is important to me. Thus, buying lenses for the bodies
best suited to the task would be the only logical choice.

The actual quality of a lens, for each parameter of interest, is not
subjective, it's a scientifically testable fact (resoltution,
contrast, aberation, ...). How one chooses to interpret these facts
in a purchase or use decision is often subjective (unless one has
established some objective requirements apriori).
