Mike,

The first and most important thing to remember is that this is a partial
solar eclipse and at no time is the sun fully covered. That means you MUST
use some sort of solar filter (such as Baader film) to protect your eyes and
equipment. If you do not have any sort of filter material, the only other
way is to use pinhole projection, but I don't believe that is what you are
looking for.

Solar filters come in aluminized Mylar and coated glass versions. There is
no acceptable substitute for the proper material - remember your eyes are at
risk here. The only exception is welder's glass but I'm not sure as to the
specific type.

As for film, fine grain is desirable so 100 or 400 should be fine. You can
get an exposure calculator at Michael Covington's website:
http://www.covingtoninnovations.com/astro/astrosoft.html . You can find more
detailed information on some of the astrophotography newsgroups. Just search
around, you'll find lots of information.

Goo luck and USE A FILTER!!! (just making sure)

Merry Christmas to everyone on the list!!

Mike V.
