Tim,
The procedure is just too new to really know yet, as they're mostly using it
with patients with dire corneal problems (as it is used to re-shape the
cornea with C-shaped pieces of plastic inserted from the side). While I
suspect that waaaay down the road this will be the next Great Thing..it'll be
a while (maybe 2 years from now) before we really know. It's still an
invasive procedure, scarring can still occur, maybe causing problems with a
later needed transplant. Insertion of a catact IOL's SHOULD be OK, but we
really won't know until we can test the amount of scarring. I am particularly
excited about this for the eventual correction in the future for "high
astigmatics"...my hub has unusally high astigmatism and it has caused him to
have poor vision, expensive glasses, and no successful contact lense use his
entire life.

We are in the infancy of these procedures..ten years from now we'll realize
this was an experimental period..very primitive. I'll kindly wait to let
someone else be the guinea pig....
Chicken Sue

Trivia: Did you realize that astigmatism (misshapened eyeball) increased
hundred-folds with the Yuppies and they think it's mainly attributed to the
use of forceps during deliveries from the mid-forties to the about 1960??
They squeezed all those little heads!
