I wonder if it has anything to do with the design of the R8 which has
got to be one of the ugliest clunckiest looking Leicas of all times! If
one thought the M5 was a bit cluncky compared to the M3 the R8 is a gold
medalist in the ugly league! On the otherhand the R6-2 is one of the
sightliest SLRs in existence........on a par with the OM4T.
