I almost always use a UV0 (aka Haze) outdoors and indoors. Exceptions are
when I might get stray reflections between lens and filter surfaces during
night or indoor available light with strong pinpoint sources of light.

Unless you are using transparency films I've found a Skylight 1A or 1B to
be nearly useless. With color negative, the print machine operators are
going to balance it all to whatever they think appropriate (or their
software tells them). The filter pack adjustments on the print machine
will do far more than the tweak a 1A or 1B give!

Lately I've been using a 4-point star-cross on a 135/2.8 telephoto for
shooting available light from the back of churches during weddings. I
rotate it so that the ends of the points meet just above the bride and
groom in the center. The tungsten and candlelight give a very warm tone to
the image and the star-cross renders a dreamy feeling to it that fits with
the distance. I always shoot about half with and half without it. Some
people don't like the effect.

With B/W, the UV0 gets swapped out for a Yellow (it's either a #6 or #8).
It generally renders skin tones more naturally to how we perceive them plus
it modestly increases the contrast, especially between cloud and sky.
Panchromatic B/W films have more blue response and the Yellow cuts it down
some. For even more contrast in landscapes, especially for dramatic
contrast of cumulus clouds against blue sky, I use a red filter. It makes
the sky noticeably darker than a yellow. One caution, though. A red works
very well with lighter colored buildings against sky, but use caution with
things like red barns or covered bridges! It will lighten them to an
unnatural gray shade.

Note: I haven't tried the Green, but it will supposedly do similar
balancing with skin tones, darken sky slightly, and lighten green foliage
some for more detail. I plan to experiment with this one during
Thanksgiving (but *not* at the wedding).
