[OM] 16mm f3.5 Fisheye metering

Greetings,

I just bought a new 16mm f3.5 fisheye lens and have a question for the group:

I'll be using this on an OM1n and remember reading somewhere that you cannot 
use the internal meter with this lens. Is it consistently off a stop or two 
allowing for compensation or is an external light meter necessary? 

Does anyone have any thoughts on using this lens effectively? (Pardon me if 
this is a newbie question, my OM and photography interest and experience are 
only a month old).
