If you are serious about doing this yourself, then you'll have to buy the
service manual for the camera, or at least a schematic. I think it would be
unfair to John or any other pro to ask him to diagnose your camera troubles
when you fully intend on doing the work yourself. Those cameras are so
complicated electronically that you really do need a service manual. Maybe
John would be willing to tell you where you can buy one, and what kind of
tools you're going to need. The camera has a cpu in it, so you'll need some
kind of logic analyser I suppose. This is not a problem that you can just
look around and "see" unless it's an obvious wire or solder break. Now, I'm
one to talk, having partially dissassembled my OM-1 and OM-2n, but even I,
ace gear head that I am, had to buy a reprint of an aftermarket service
manual to figure out how the silly top plate comes off. Then I had to buy a
special tool for what I considered a high price. I have successfully
re-assembled them, but this is not for the faint of heart. There are many
little fiddly parts that are too small for my big fat fingers to manipulate.
This stuff is so small that you get crossed eyed just trying to see where
stuff goes. So, fore warned is fore armed. Free advice is worth every penny.
