"Work for Hire." There is a big stink between the RIAA and musicians right now
because the RIAA's lobbyist  managed to sneak a change into the copyright code
categorizing sound recordings as work for hire. This essentially makes every
recording artist the equivalent of a mapmaker. Courtney Love has actually given
some insightful and erudite speeches on the issue. When one thinks of the RIAA's
suit with Napster, it seems that the only question is who gets to steal the
artists work.

<<The issue of photographer's no longer owning their negatives is an 
ongoing problem. Many news organizations (AP, etc), only sign contracts with
photographers that are willing to give up their copyrights to the pictures.
There's a name for these kinds of contracts which escapes me right now. >>
