If I'm not disremembering, the photos were taken with panoramic cameras.
The images were enlarged onto light-sensitized plastic sheets, which were
then laminated onto heavier plastic backing. Then rear illuminated. Been a
while since I've lived in NY, tho', so we may be thinking of different
stuff.
