The IS-1 is unable to lock on to someone WALKING towards the camera.  When
the IS-3 came out, that was the first thing the Woodbury techs tried and it
focus'd fast enough to lock and fire.

My guess is that the main weakness of the iS series AF system is the single
point
AF. This for instance makes it difficult to focus on small and fast moving
objects
like an aircraft in the sky. I hope the next iS camera (hopefully released
within
a year) will show an improvement in this. Otherwise the AF system is quite
adequate for all situations (at least that of the iS-3 / iS-3000; can't
speak for
the others).
