John - A thousand years ago - when I was in high-school, worked for a mom & pop
basement photofinishing operation. Hand dunked batches of film into vertical
tanks made from square sewer tiles... which was appropriate, because solutions
got changed by pulling the plug and letting the tank flow under the duckboards
to the floor drain. (I can still smell it.)

A guy I know thought he could keep termites out of his house by dumping all
his ABU (already been used) motor oil around the foundation of his house.
Like the guy who cut a hole in his basement floor and dumped his used
darkroom chemicals there because he figured they were, like, chemicals, ya
know, and this way, they were going "back to earth" (actual letter to Pop
Photo a decade ago.)
Both ways, your creating your own toxic waste site.
