=========================
Next time you shoot some landscape, check to see how level your horizons are
with your new taller pod.
=========================

Whether camera is on a short or tall tripod, I always check that the
camera is level with a spirit level. It can be very difficult to
tell if a horizon line or surface of body of water are level by
looking through a viewfinder, regardless of height of tripod.

When I'm carrying a really small package, I usually carry a Gitzo 01
tripod and vari-magni finder. The vari-magni makes using a shorter
tripod fairly comfortable. I have a spirit level that slips into
the hot shoe of a 35mm SLR nicely. My other tripods, Velbon Carmagne 640C,
and Gitzo G1227, both operate at eye level (and higher as I'm 5'6"
in height), and I have a Bogen Compact Gear Head on the G1227 which
has a spirit level built-in. I don't consider spirit levels to
be optional for landscape work.
