Made a first attempt at anything like this; forgot about it until Acer and
another mail list reminded me. Didn't have _any_ high speed film; the most
suitable on the shelf was Royal Gold 100. Since I hardly ever do long
tele, I put a 2x on a 75-150 and set it up outside on my patio slab.

On the up side the sky was crystal clear. On the down side was the reason
the sky was crystal clear this time of year. It was near zero (F) with 35
below (F) wind chill. The batteries made it for a half hour before they
pooped out from the cold. Replaced them and continued for another hour.
By then it was pushing 5 below (without wind chill) until I encountered a
similar problem someone else on the list did. The film would wind but the
shutter release would not reset. Ended up taking the camera in and out of
the house several times to try to keep it warm enough for the shutter
release to work correctly. Haven't developed the film yet and will do so
later this week. Hopefully something remotely reasonable come out of
freezing my hind end (and fingers). As long as the shutter stayed open I
suspect there will be some blurring from the rotation of the Earth and
orbit of the Moon. Envious of those who had warm weather and clear sky.

Someone at work the next day remarked anyone outdoors shooting the eclipse
when it's that cold was lunatic. I agreed . . . absolutely "lunatic." ;-)
