I adopted a policy some years ago of putting little slips of paper under
the battery contacts...

There is also the idea of insulating the underside of the battery cap,
mentioned on the list some time ago. Trouble is you need a spare one to
retain the batteries when the camera is not in use, or you can use the MD
cap if it is not needed. Either way you have to remove the der/md which can
be a bit of a pain. Better than continually replacing batteries though.
