In response to Don Allen's question about which standard range zoom to
buy...

Here are the best ones:

1. Olympus 35-70/3.6 (dealers will want 250-275 $US for a clean one)
2. Vivitar Series 1 35-85/2.8 (dealers will want 175 $US for a clean one)
3. Sigma 28-70/2.8 (hard to find in OM mount, probably 250-275 $US for a clean
                    one at a dealer)
4. Tamron SP 35-105/2.8 (about 475 $US at a dealer)
5. Tamron SP 28-105/2.8 (available new for around 800 $US)
6. Olympus 35-80/2.8 (available new around 1100 $US)

the 35-80/2.8 Zuiko is no doubt the best of all if you have the surplus
funds to pay for it. the tamron 28-105 is not as sharp as the original
35-105.

Go with the 35-70/3.6 if a compact, lightweight lens is what you're after.
the Vivitar lens has the sturdiest build construction of the three listed,
and is the best value of the lot at prevailing prices. The Vivitar lens
is varifocal though, meaning you have to refocus after changing focal
length, as this lens lacks a compensating group (group of elements that
compensate for change in focal length to maintain sharp focus without
changing the focusing adjustment.
