John,

Yikes! I've been reverse engineered and it didn't even hurt! <g>

Thanks very much for the input -- I'll rescan and repost.

Thanks,

Dave

I did a little experimentation in Paint Shop Pro:

1. Image from Dave ....750 x 500 pixels, 200rogressive compression,
resolution at 800 ppi .... 257 kb [load time with 56kbps modem running
at 49.9kbps ... like for ever!]

2. Image #1 reduced to 30ompression ..otherwise unchanged.......98 kb
3. Image #1 reduced to 600 x 400 pixels ... otherwise unchanged ... 66kb
4. Image #1 reduced to 600 x 400 pixels, 30ompression ...... 52 kb

Quality / appearance of image on screen ........same in all four cases.

No change in 800 ppi resolution ..... which appears to have no any
effect on load time and appearance.

My experience with scannuing is that a 600 x 400 pixel image with a 30%
compression factor generally produces a 50 / 55 kb file. With progessive
compression a 55kb file loads within a few seconds and the on screen
image is perfectly acceptable.
