Thanks to John Hermanson and Paul D. Farrar for clearing up a few points
about the MD2.
When I turn the drive on a few symbols flicker and so does a couple of
segments in the "frames left" area. The "frames left" part of the display
then fades away, otherwise the MD2 functions just like Paul D. Farrar
explained.
I just realized this, so haven't had the opportunity to check, but I assume
this counter is powered by the two small batteries in the drive itself and
that I will have a fully functional unit when I replace those batteries.

As a side note, the SIF explains:
"Others: Shutter release button atop handgrip; Digital LCD
display powered by two SR44 (or LR44) batteries serves as
frame counter and displays operational procedures.."

This can't be entirely correct as all parts of the display except the
digits worked without the batteries installed. My guess is that only the
counter, not the display itself, is powered by the two SR44s. Can somebody
confirm this?

Regards,
Thomas Bryhn
