Charlie;

Yeah, I did misunderstand. But it was still a great platform for a rant!
:>)

Your points below are very concisely made. I'll add one more thing:

One of the goals of the "Master Plan" for Yosemite (and that *is * what they
call it. Sounds a bit Stalinistic to me.) is to (paraphrasing as I don't
have the actual quote in front of me):

'enhance the solitary natural experience of the grandeur of nature for the
park's visitors'
or some blather like that. Well, I'd like to ask anyone who'll listen:

**HOW THE HELL IS MY EXPERIENCE ENAHANCED IF, EVERYWHERE I GO, THERE'S A
FRIGGIN' BUSLOAD OF PEOPLE WITH ME?**

OR **if I have to drive to a staging area, unload the car, wait for the
bus, load the bus, ride in the noisy slow, crowded bus over treacherous mt.
roads to the park, hoping all the while that the bus driver didn't smoke a
doobie before his shift, unload the bus along with 40 or 50 other people,
check in to my over-priced, cookie cutter motel which has replaced the
rustic tent cabins along with 40 or 50 other people, .... **

Also, the problem NOW is crowding, but ONLY in the summer. The logical
answer to this should be obvious to even a socialistic government employee:
**limit the number of cars**. They already do this on Memorial and Labor
days. Folks with reservations can get in, others have to wait in a queue.
Electronic road signs placed on the 3 inbound routes about 30 miles from the
park, say, could warn the unwary of their potential fate. Perhaps they'll
go elsewhere. The cost and logistics of this are far less draconian than
their 'Master Plan' will ever be. (I've seen cost estimates over a billion
$s for the infrastructure to support the Master Plan. And this for a park
which begs for money just to pick up the litter.)

The problems after the diesels come in will be pollution and noise.

Someone's suggestion of electric trams would cost about as much as a Space
Station. Get real.
