Acer,
The orange masking is subtracted out by the scanning software.  Some
software uses an average mask tone for all negative films and the user must
fine tune the color balance of the image to compensate for different
emulsions.  Other programs support a long list of specific films from which
you must select for your particular film type.  It is still an approximation
but generally more accurate.  Besides, the density and tone of the mask can
vary from storage conditions and development.  Fine tuning is almost always
needed.
