The current new price in Brisbane for a 35-80/2.8 is AUS $4000.00!
(US$2600.00). And that's from one of the most consistent, reasonably
priced shops in Australia.

Fortunately the second hand market is more affordable, and occasionally
real bargains can be found. (I paid $50.00 for my 40/2, $180.00 for the
shift 35, and $575.00 for the 180/2.8)
