IS-300) Wide angle: GN16 Tele: GN25
IS-200) Wide angle: GN14 Tele: GN18

In other words, the flash working range has been increased by 10 0n wide angle
and by
40 0n tele.

Also said to be able to work in low light of EV-1 with ISO100 film.

Hans, this text seems to have been copied from the IS-200 and IS-300 info pages
at
Olympus Japan's site. My understanding was that IS-30(0) was improved in this
area in
comparison with IS-20(0), i.e. on IS-30(0) the cap can be closed over a filter
of
almost any thickness but on IS-20(0) the cap has to be kept open if you want to
use
anything else than a thin filter. Quoting from the IS-300 info page
 http://www.olympus.co.jp/LineUp/Camera/Lsrs/is300E.html ) at Olympus Japan's
site:

-quote-
"Like the earlier IS-200, the IS-300 has an integrated lens cap that opens
automatically when the power is turned on. This convenient feature eliminates
the
bother of removing the lens cap for every shot as well as the risk of losing
it. The
cap can be closed even when a filter has been added to the lens."
-unquote-

Specifications at the IS-200 info page
 http://www.olympus.co.jp/LineUp/Camera/is200E.html ) says:

-quote-
"Filter available: 52 mm diameter. Filter thickness must be 6 mm or less for
the lens
to close."
-unquote-

Can it be that the people at Olympus Europe just copied this last sentences
from the
IS-200 info page and added them to the IS-300 specifications believing that both
cameras are completely identical in this respect? Maybe there are some IS-20(0)
and/or
IS-30(0) users out there who can help us out here?

Other differences/improvements on IS-30(0) which hasn't been specifically
mentioned (I
think) is the full synchro Super FP flash in portrait mode, the Auto
Colour-Balancing
Flash which detects the wavelength of fluorescent or other artificial lighting
resulting in "lifelike pictures that have an ideal colour balance free from an
unnatural cast", and last but not least a pewter body which gives a gun-like
overall
effect and a snazzy-looking camera (this according to mr Sommerwerck). In
addition
there are also two new conversion lenses released with the IS-30(0), the C-160
1.45x
and the C-210 1.9x converters. I presume they are not dedicated to the IS-30(0)
though, i.e. they can also be used on the older IS-10(0)/-10(0)S/-20(0). This
gives
btw the owner of one of these smaller IS cameras a choice of no less than three
different conversion lenses to extend focal length beyond 110 mm (presuming the
older
C-180 1.7x converter can still be found either new or used).

If someone has managed to miss it the July issue of Pop Photo gives a good
review of
IS-30(0) (basically they say it is probably the best P & S out there if it
hadn't been
for the size of the camera).
