Nodding agreement with Hans to scan both pieces seperately...

I haven't had very good luck with this technique, but possibly because I'm missing something. I always end up spending lots of time in arbitrary rotate to get them to line up, and then the edges don't match, colors are slightly different, etc.

If you go this route, you might want to scan both halves at the same time, but separated enough to be able to cut them apart in Photoshop for re-aligning, and carefully make sure the two are squared on the platen guide of the scanner. That way, as many of the variables of scanning as possible will be the same for both halves.
