Jeff,
Thanks for the reply.
About the 2S: It is more like an OM-4 than an OM2n. The mirror is
different in the respect that it is semi-silvered to allow some light to go
through the lens to be metered in SPOT mode (the larger circle in the
viewfinder). Parts for 2S's are hard to come by, but if they are working
now, they will likely work for some time to come (I sure hope so!). The
metering on the 2S in SPOT mode is manual, otherwise, exposures are
automatic like with the other OM2,4 cameras.

AUTO mode on the 2N is cool, same as for 2, 2S and 4 series. The automatic
exposure is made WHILE THE SHUTTER IS OPEN. If the light changes, the OM
meter will detect it and adjust the exposure. You can get proper exposures
up to ~2 minutes. You can test this for yourself: point the camera at a
bright light and place your hand over the lens. Trip the shutter with the
camera set to AUTO. Remove your hand and the shutter will close almost
immediately. Repeat this a few times to confirm the action. The key is the
meter cell inside the mirror box and the shutter curtain with all those
little white specks making close to an 18 0ray card. Olympus was the first
with this type of exposure system. Still one of the best.
The meter in the viewfinder will show what is going to be close to the
actual exposure before the shutter is opened, but the cells in the bottom of
the mirror box will adjust exposure and have the "final say".
Ready for REALLY COOL? By using a T-series or compatible (Vivitar, Sunpak,
etc) flash, you can also get TTL exposures with flash. That's what a shoe 4
does on the 2n or the built-in shoes on the other cameras. Great for macro
or just about anything else.
A tip - if you can find it, read your dad's manual on the 2n.

Although they haven't been available for a while, you might also think about
an OM-PC. This model is sorta between a 2n and a 2S. Has TTL even for
flash, but has a lighter weight body (some will say cheap plastic). A
brighter finder than a standard OM 13 screen. Got one for my son for his
birthday about 4 years ago and he loves it. I know where you can get one of
those in a repair shop for $70. It has been cleaned and adjusted. The
owner refused to pay for it, so the repair shop is going to sell it. Mirror
is dusty, but it would be cleaned before it left the shop I'm sure. I've
even thought about buying it for an extra for my son, but a divorce at my
house might be the result (I've got 3 OM-4 bodies, 3 OM-1's and the 2S).
Let me know if you'd be interested. I'd be glad to pick it up for you. I
live in Ohio, near Dayton. Shipping is no big deal, timing is though!

Bracketing in automatic mode adjusts exposure by adjusting shutter speed.
Let's you try and get a decent exposure in case the meter got fooled by
hard-to-meter lighting.

I would be glad to answer any other questions you might have. There are
others in this group that have had a lot more experience than I have had.
There are some professional photographers here. Good experience and good
people. Ask away, then try it out. Good luck getting ready for the trip,
have even better luck and a great experience on the trip!

Thanks for the responce Brian!
Yours was probably the best, most accurate one I have received. After
thinking about it for a bit, it appears that I will probably get my 2n CLA'd
and look around for a 2n or 2s. Now that is my dillema..I havent ever seen
a 2s. I've read it has all that fancy spot metering, etc. Is it worth
searching a round for this feature? If I get one, should it become my "main
camera?" Also, ive recently discovered this auto mode on my 2n. I never
really bothered to check out what it does. It apppears to work very well
though right? I havent taken any shots with it yet (currently have some of
that kodak B&W that develop as color in there) so I can't test some of my
results. My trip is rapidly approaching and I'm trying to figure out what
Im going to do. I know my dad would be crushed if his camera got broken,
busted, stolen, etc. So thats why im looking to get another body..there are
some available on ebay but who knows how nice they really are. Anyhow,
thanks again for your previous responce, maybe you can help me a little on
this followup?

-Jeff

P.S. Mind commenting on this bracketing method? I understand you take a
shot a few times will moving the E button up or down a few 1/3 stops. Does
this accomplish the "best" shot? What is being adjusted? The aperteure or
the film speed??
