You've got some good pts here.  1)We don't want to overanalyze and 2)we
need to be careful of folks' egos.

As for 1) I think the problem is solvable, I've been saving all the msgs
re the photo con/splay and can take a look for concensus.  Also, a list
of categories shoud be put out to vote on.  For several years, I was in
a local camera club.  We did similar slide contests every month. It can
be done, but as with everything, not everyone will be totally happy
withe the system or the results.

2) If it looks like this may be a problem, how about filtering the ID of
the commenter?  

I figure we can hash out a bit more, then I'll put together concensus
and we can go from there.

Also, all who are interested, please suggest categories. How about:
macros
abstracts
faces
wildlife
...
