My gut feeling is that the lenses for my Mamiya 6 are on a par with the
sharpest Zuikos. I've been intending for a while to do a comparison
between the 50mm 3.5 Mamiya and equivalent Zuiko, just to see what happens,
but haven't got around to it yet. The Mamiya lenses are *incredibly*
sharp. The design brief was apparently to produce lenses which matched the
best available, and I think they probably succeeded.
