I just tried to create an worst-case scenario (maybe not worse enough?)
under an controled enviroment, so I could compare different lenses under
fair conditions.
It happend to me, sometimes, that I cursed one lens, because it worked
not like I want, if an cross checking with other lenses (including other
brands) was possible, it often showed, that alternative lenses did not
behave better. So maybe I´m still unfair to the SC 50mm/1.4, because I
checked it not under the same conditions.

I once owned an 17mm/3.5 Vivitar lens, which looks like the 17mm/3.5
Tokina a friend owns, both lenses are marked MC and the reflection of
both shows more than two colours.
It happend, that the friend also owned an 18mm/3.5 Nikkor and I had
access to an 18mm Zuiko, so we could test the lenses ghosting, flare
performance.
To make it short, the Zuiko and Nikkor were far superior in this respect
much less ghosting and nearly no flare compared to the 17mm
Tokitar/Vivina.
The friend has still the Tokina. Why?
Even the Nikkor has much less problems with ghosting, it is still
visible under certain conditions, this looks often more distracting and
"wrong" than the bouncing lights inside the Tokina.
He is able to make the reflections and flare of the Tokina part of the
image, so it´s enhancing the "message" of the picture, with the Nikkor
it´s not strong enough and looks erroneous.

So MC is not MC and sometimes SC will do the job also, sombody else
experience might be different.
At least we should not forget, that photographing is an creative
occupation and our lenses are not made for the dull job of projecting
the wiring of ICs on wafers.

Regards

Richard
