There was some discussion about the Emoskop optical system several weeks
ago. Since Christmas and Chanukah are coming up, and the Emoskop makes a
nice gift, * I thought I'd post some more information about it.

The Emoskop was designed by Arthur Seibert, who founded EMO-OPTIK, the
company in Wetzlar that originally manufactured the Emoskop. (The
current version is Asian, of course.) Seibert is better known as the
designer of the highly corrected Complan lens used in post-WW II
Minoxes. This guy was no slouch when it came to optical design -- my
Emoskop has a sharp, constrasty image.

Haverhills sells the Emoskop under the Episcope name for $60. If you buy
two, they throw in a third, bringing the price down to $40, a good deal
if you can find two other people who want one (and assuming the quality
is the same as it was 25 years ago). You can contact Haverhills at
1-800-797-7367.

* Though not much of a stocking-stuffer -- unless you're a gerbil.
