I wouldn't be so depressed.  The proof is in the print or the slide.  While it
is nice to have an image snap into focus and to shoot at a faster shutter
speed, part of your impression is an illusion in the viewfinder.  I got much
the same feeling when I got the 2 series screens for my OM2S.  Especially the
200/5 was too dark to and the view too grainy with the old screens.  But with
the new screens the images did come to life much more.  I don't know what type
of OM you have but you might consider putting a 2 series screen in your body.
If put in the OM1 or OM2 or 2n and minor surgery is done on the tab, your
exposures will be off somewhat but the exposure factor could be figured out.
Then you could have a brighter image without investing in new lens.
