Yes this is the normal sync operation of the built-in G28 flash, but in 
portrait exposure mode and manual exposure you can get full synchro ("super FP" 
or longer duration of emission) up to 1/2000 (at least with IS-3000). With the 
G40 optional flash however there is no super FP capability whatsoever.
