              I agree with Chris. There's always a schism on all these
lists between the strict adherents and the occassional meanderings. As
long as it is good-natured, interesting, and related to the central theme,
I see no harm.
  If the participants have the presence of mind to take it to e-mail
when it sways far off-topic, we'll be just fine.
