Depends on who the retailer was.  NYC grey market in mid-1974 was ca. $640
(adjusted to mid 1998 dollars).  For real eye openers, the 16mm Fisheye and
the 300mm f/4.5 were both just shy of $1200!!!  

Take home lesson here?  Competition is what dictates prices.  Later 1970's and
1980's price wars made the OM System affordable.  Perhaps Olympus is now
pricing the OM System vs. the remaining Nikon manual focus items, which
themselves are being phased out one by one.
