"So... Zuiko lenses are good but not always the best. Back in 1972 when
Olympus designed the Zuiko lens system, there was no ED glass. Also,
they kept the number of elements down, both because they didn't have
multicoating at the time and because they valued light weight."

Actually, several Zuikos have multicoating, especially the high-speed
wide-angle lenses. These, of course, were not part of the initial lens
offering.

Are readers aware that Zuiko lenses have all-aluminum bearings, rather
than the mixture of aluminium and brass used in most other lenses (at
least in '72)? This, too, was done to save weight. In theory, the Zuiko
lenses should wear out faster and be more likely to bind. This does not
seem to have been a problem. (At least, I've never heard any discussion
of it.)
