Does lens vision and human vision haft to match? Isn't it more of an issue
of viewing the final print?

I maintain that a 400mm lens most closely matches our vision because of the
"wraparound" aspect of our stereographic vision. In order for a lens to see
nearly as much of an object as the human eyes (plural), we have to capture
as close to a full hemisphere of the object, which can only be done from
great distance with a very long lens.
