Hi, Gang,

I'm just beginning to catch up on my mail from a month in the field..
I'd
probably do better just to erase it all and start over! I really missed
being able to check in and send verbose comments.. I guess it's habit
forming??

We had an excellent trip.. 15 days in Costa Rica and 16 in Panama.
Panama
was the big surprise.. it has REALLY grown. It was like setting down in
Manhattan! Out of the city, however, it was much more like I remembered
it. All in all we found about 20 new species of Orchids, got lots of great
shots of Toucans and now all I have to do is find the money to pay to
develop all the rolls I took.

Unfortunately my new OM4T decided it didn't like to travel. It doesn't
seem to be as well sealed against humidity as my other OMs. At least, I
think that is what is causing my batteries to blink on and off. We were in
VERY humid conditions (read that downpours of rain) and I wouldn't get any
reading inside the viewfinder. I changed batteries before the trip, plus I
carried new ones with me and changed them again. Absolutely nothing. Once
in a while I could hear a beep coming from the camera body when I wasn't
even using it!! Then, a short time later I would check and the display
would be functioning again. It didn't matter which batteries I used, and I
made certain that the battery chamber was dry, also. Has anyone ever
encountered this problem before? I guess I ought to just send it in to be
checked over.. but as it is an intermittant problem I'm certain my luck
would find it functioning perfectly when in the shop!

Other than that.. I came across an old associate at the Smithsonian who
always ranted about his Nikons vs my OMs. Funny thing.. I left, and he
went out and bought OMs!! He said he wanted to sell his OMs and return to
NIKON, so I offered to take them off his hands (heh, heh). I offered him
everything but my first born for the sale.. but he backed down at the last
minute! Oh, the stuff he had!! The Zuiko AutoMacro 38, Telescopic
Extentions, AutoMacro 135, Black OM4 Ti, .. with the beattie view finder
(NOW I know what you guys have been talking about! IT's bloody
marvelous!), and odds and ends. I almost cried. I think he was just
pulling my chain. Well, I'll continue to work on him. After all, he
insists his Nikon system is so much better..

It's good to be home. Now, if I can only remember where I put my car
keys..

        Kerry
