When you wind the shutter, you are feeling the total of all the gears, levers
and
springs which are involved in that simple task. This might be ten gears, as
well as
the gears on the bottom of the shutter curtains. OM-1 through 2N have a
different
type of wind mech than an OM-2S through 4Ti. The 2nd type, by design, will
always feel
rough compared to a well worn OM-1. A motor drive (looking at a block
diagram) enters
the gear train after the wind mech. There are 3-5 gears in the wind mech that
are not
employed when the motor is used on the body.
It is not possible to make the wind smoother by polishing gears, etc., and when
someone
has asked me to do it, I decline. If anyone tells you they can do it, be
prepared ;-)
