I hope this gets through this time!
<Charlie,
Can you make the article refered to, available to the list in general.
Rand E.>

There are two reasons I can't do that.
1. I don't want to infringe on the copyright.
2. My scanner isn't working.

Here is what I found helpful in the article.
Set your camera at say f16
Shoot a frame with an object at infinity (say the broad side of a barn)
and then do the same set at the hyperfocal distance.
Tripod is mandatory.
Now look at the negatives with a 10x loupe.
The shot with HFD is considerably out of focus at the barn.

This is not a revelation to some of you folks, but it was to me.

The fact has always been that there is only one point of true focus.
The depth of field has usually been acceptable focus.

These calculations on the focus distance were made when film had a
resolution of around 30 lines per millimeter.
Today film has a resolution of 100 to 160 LPM.
The suggestion was to use about half the DOF range or close 2 additional
stops than indicated for the desired DOF.

To me this means if I was shooting a landscape and was using HFD, instead of
using F8 I would need to use F16 for apparent sharp focus throughout the
image.

The other features of this article were on different focal lengths and DOF
and on shooting groups of people and DOF.

If you want, I will cover the other features one at a time.

Feel free to pick this and me apart. I need the education.

Oly content, The OM1 and the 50 1.8 are the perfect tools to try this with.
Heck, they are just perfect tools!
