Is anyone familiar with Loch Katrine in Scotland?

I am traveling to Scotland with a church choir leaving Baltimore on the second
of August for two weeks. Although we
will be traveling around from Glasgow to Fort William to Inverness for the
first few days, we settle for a week in
Edinburgh to become a resident choir at a cathedral there.

Another choir member and I have been working together to write a multimedia
show on Schubert. Its focus is Schubert's
travel in 1825. In early 1825 Schubert composed seven songs on the text from
Walter Scott's "Lady of the Lake." The
lake depicted in the story is Loch Katrine. We are interested in seeing it and
the surroundings.

The tourist office in Edinburgh tells us about a bus tour available from
Edinburgh, but it takes place on wrong two days
of the week. We are there to sing, so our time is rather limited.

If anyone has been there, please let me know how it is like. I would like to
take photographs of course, so please
include any tips. Taking a cruise would allow enough of photo opportunities?
What might be the best way to get there
ourselves from Edinburgh? How much time should we allow?

The tourist office in Edinburgh seems to want to sell bus tours from Edinburgh,
but not information on individual
travels.

Thanks.
