[OM] Neverending OTF on OM-2

Subject: [OM] Neverending OTF on OM-2

I wish I could find the original message, but here's the problem:

Sometimes on auto (never on manual) the shutter stays open, requiring me
to move the shutter speed ring to bulb in order to reset it. This
happens maybe about 1 out of 20 times (enough to make auto practically
useless).

There were a couple things suggested:

1) I may be using the wrong battery type. I was. I've sinced replaced
the alkalines I bought last year with silver oxides. The problem still
occurs.

2) A mechanical problem. I might be wrong (and often am :) but doesn't
this pretty much have to be an electrical/metering problem, since it
only happens in auto mode, never in manual?

Finally, there doesn't seem to be any commonality among the times that
this occurs. I've had this happen at shutter speeds from 1/15 to 1/1000,
and right after an identical exposure that worked fine. Also, if it
makes any difference this is an OM-2 from late 1976 with the old
non-weighted shutter curtain pattern.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :). Thanks...

Greg
