Most older OM body manufacture dates are determined by dates stamped
either on the back of the pressure plate, under the pressure plate or
(later production OM-4 and up) in the film chamber .

Example: numbers behind your pressure plate might be: " E" "0 (zero)"
"X"

"E" is factory code (code be any one of 20 or so factories.)
"0" equals 1980
"X" stands for the tenth month, October(Y is eleventh, Z is twelfth) 1-9
is January through September.

Starting with the OM-4, Oly started using the code differently. Age or
production date of camera is not determined by serial number.
