Hello Zuikoholics,

here are some more lens tests. Zuikos haven´t there outperformed
the rest :-( ,but keep a good place in the midle of the pack.
Remarkble is, that old Zuiko design are still on par with new
competing lens designs (I guess the 28mm AF Olympus lens has
the same design than the 28mm 2,8 Zuiko).
The 21mm Zuiko is still the fastest 21mm lens avaible! It has
to make some concesions to the wide aperture especialy at the
corners, you will notice, that the best lens here is the
slowest lens too.
Interessting is the comparision of non AF and AF lenses, some
new designs seems to have some problems with the quality (I will
show more examples with further test tables).

Based on a lens test by the Magazin Color Foto, published in
9/89, 11/89 (20-21mm) and 5/91 (28mm)

The quality numbers are basing on MTF measuring, the
difference of one whole number marks an, for the critical
observer, just noticable difference in sharpnes, contrast. The
maximum number is 10, which stands for a flawless lens.
The number are computed and weigthed for the central half
diameter to 2/3 and the rest to 1/3, the extrem corners are
not rated.
Vignetting is the combined effect of light fall off and
vignetting through the lens barrel.
Waveform distortion is a combination of pincushion distorsion
in the corner and barrel distorsion in the center.

P.S. actual tests of the 24mm 2,0, 28mm 2,0 and the 35mm 2,0 Zuiko
will follow soon, I´ve to find a new form of presentation, because
ColorFoto has changed there lens tests.
