This "reduce the exposure by 1/3 stop" rule of thumb has also worked well
for me in the past when working with Kodachrome.  I once got an extremely
unusual autumn foliage shot using this rule (straight up into the dark blue
afternoon sky [no polarizing filter], with different branches of a single
prairie maple, coloured green, brilliant gold and scarlet respectively,
framing the sky at three edges of the screen), and the colour saturation
was another one of those "reach out and *spank* you" kind of experiences.
Got a lot of requests from people for Cibachromes of that particular shot.
Sadly, lost the slide a few years back...  **HEAVY SIGH**
