I believe the flash extender "thing" was produced to shut up people with OM-10s 
and
T20s.  Most likely it was made for Olympus by an outside source and the marketed
(reluctantly).  This item was never intended to be seen in a product planner or
systems chart and was givenb away to those who complained about red eye.
It is long out of production & availability.  This reminds me of the time when
people threatened to sue Kodak cus their pocket 110s gave them red eye with 
flash
cubes, so they "created" an extender and the rest is history.
