I bought one last year, and returned it after I did some exposure
comparisons with 35, 50, 55 and 85 mm. Zuikos.
The Vivitar constantly let my OM-3 and OM-4 think it was an F4 lens,
or, at least that it was set at F4...
The shopkeeper had the lens checked after, but when it returned it had
the same problem, and I got my money back. Recently, I saw another
specimen, in another shop. I brought my OM-3 and a Kodak neutral grey
card along, and YES, it had the same problem. My guess is that the lens
probably IS an F2.8, but that the OM mount has some contruction error
that causes the camera to think the lens is set at F4 (that is that the
aperture level is not in right position). In TTL auto mode you'll get,
without any doubt, correct exposure, but I wanted the lens for
available light pictures (particulary for concerts, where lens changes
can be cumbersome), where I could rely on exposure values, using manual
mode.
I didn't like the size and weight of the lens either, nor its varifocal
design; it did have a funny macro range at 35 mm., though.
